Environment Art – The Witness
On a team of fewer than 10, I owned several regions of the island: the church, marsh, treehouse, windmill, and parts of the mountain interior. Many of these I designed from scratch, working closely with architects and Jonathan Blow so the spaces felt structurally believable.
Sometimes I worked from architectural blockouts, sometimes from completely grey-box abstractions, filling in the gaps with my own direction where I could. I was responsible for taking my areas to final optimized environments for shipping. I also helped design a few of the puzzles. Art and mechanics couldn’t be separated on this project, so architectural notes and gameplay shaped every decision together.
